SUSTAIN — Smart Buildings Sensitive to Daily Sentiment

Funding: Horizon EIC Pathfinder · Grant Agreement No. 101071179 · Work Package 3
Institution: University of Trento, Italy · January 2023 – March 2026

SUSTAIN developed innovative technologies for smart buildings that adapt to occupants' daily sentiment and well-being. The project combined emotion AI, edge computing, and federated learning to create privacy-preserving intelligent building systems that enhance occupant comfort and energy efficiency.

My Contribution (WP3): Led Work Package 3 on Federated Learning and Edge AI. Developed communication-efficient federated learning algorithms optimised for resource-constrained IoT devices in smart building environments. This work formed the core of my PhD thesis: "Communication-Efficient Federated Learning for Resource-Constrained Edge Environments."
